today is for self indulgent mer nonsense. this isn’t really finalized as a concept, but it’s vaguely leon pre-capture.

also if you’re wondering why leon’s face looks like it’s glowing a little orange, it’s because today’s ink — diamine baltic breeze — has copper colored shimmer in it. it’s very unique!

Howdy just wanted to let you know how much I love your fantasy AI and how cute the designs are!

Assuming you meant Fantasy AU haha- Thank you! Ive admittedly been playing with their design a little in the background (And it hink I posted some sketches before? though im unsure if I tagged them) since some of them looked. a little too human ((sorry archie i LOVE selkies but untransformed it truly is just a fur coat. which. isnt great for a more tropical setting)) but the core of it has never changed lol I love modern fantasy

The designs are half inspired by Pokémon now, though not tooooo intensly.

Max is still mosty faun, but leant a little more into full furry for him I guess. Cope old man.

Archie has been changed from selkie which HORTS but alas i lacked the skills to draw him cool. He's just a general mercreature now. He has legs but he's half fish in design he can breathe underwater. You get it

Others I've had thoughts on:

May gets to be torchic in harpy form. She's a rare case, as she can naturally do some magic! She can Breathe Fire. Very fun for her parents. She can't fly, but she can kind of flutter- which is great for parkouring around! Active kid. Due to lacking arms/hands she uses her legs/talons for most things instead

I want Courtney to be Meowstic inspired, probably with some/devil/demon inspo for the monster part? But I admittedly haven't thought of a design Im happy with yet. She also has some natural magic! Again, not supposed to be very common. She can levitate stuff and throw around psychic shockwaves if she's mad. She tried studying to be a witch for a little while, but she didn't really like it.

Lisia is Mostly Just Regular Lisia except the cloud fluff on her outfit is part of her lol. She's a combination of Swablu inspired and a full on wind spirit. She looks normal most of the time but if a strong wind catches on her physical form literally temporarily blows away into clouds. She can control the condensation in the air around her- which is almost entirely useless, except she can use it to create rainbows behind her. Great idol trick

Zinnia gets some fun dragon traits, and also lives up to her Lorekeeper title. While there's plenty of common spells written down and going around, Zinnia has access to and protects a lot of more powerfull forgotten stuff. Most imporantly Delta Magic, which... Functions via Totally Not Mega Stones, and allows the user unlimited access to type magic for as long as it's active. It's pretty draining, but it's the only time that actual world changing magic can be made to happen, rather then more mundane or minor stuff

i dont really know what this is. why is delores a mermaid? what is this building? why is there a mermaid in it? what does this have to do with the umbrella academy? where did five find a mermaid? all of these questions and more are completely unanswered and you can decide for yourself. i just wanted to draw a mermaid, and tile, and five and delores, and a statue, all at the same time. enjoy!

Only then did the mermaid's survival instincts kick in, but instead of jerking back a in a panic, the fins along her body flared, standing erect, the poor mermaid was unable to stifle the warning hiss excasping her gills as the leviathen's lips pulled back even further.

It knew she was there, and yet the beast made no move to pursue the aggressively bristling mermaid, instead a terrifyingly familiar groan echoed from the hole, a precautionary warning, an echo to reach and locate the prey in the area..

Or predators, Al-an for the most part was unhelpful, instead choosing to lurk about his fragile mermaid curiously, watching the stand off between his little aggressive companion and the cowering leviathen.

He cares vary little for it, such a creature would not dare attack in his presence, but he also feels its important to the mermaid to stand her own ground even in the face of what would be her imminent death in any other circumstance.

It's only when the venomous barb in her tail started extending her shadow decides to easily tow her away from her prey, despite her best efforts she could not fight against the tenticle wrapped around her scale dusted waist and eventually was forced to give up the hunt as Al-an dragged her deeper into the decaying city

That article below is why Louis’s scales in Part of Your World are golden bronze btw because he’s in his element in the ocean. Also why his eyes start as golden bronze as well but go green as the transformation completes because it parallels how there’s still that element of distress and betrayal about it all (on a narrative/metaphorical level! the colour isn’t technically connected within in the world to Lestat’s betrayal and Louis’s grief, it’s just a piece of imagery that I thought worked well + imitating how the sea eats away at everything, it’s also oxidising Louis’s eyes until he belongs to it- think also that quote that Louis thinks about bearing the form of the thing (the sea) eating at you as if it wouldn’t cannibalise itself and he’s partially wrong because the sea does stop eating him once he capitulates to it. There’s that ongoing image about Louis letting the sea draw out everything that doesn’t serve him, letting the sea eat it/have it/take it away and in going to the sea he gets it all back, he gets to be that version of himself, everything he thought the sea had eaten, and I’ve gotten off topic, anyway- that article? Background to how I chose the scale colour and why I eventually went with the bronze to green eyes option).

iwaizumi: whale shark? originally i was leaning towards maybe something green but a whale shark tail would be sick. and would really suit him imo. i like the idea of like... him having some of the spots on his face too so they kinda look like freckles almost?
